Whew! What a whirlwind the last couple of weeks has been. My mom and one of my sisters came to visit from Utah and we decided to hit the road. Three ladies, 7 kids, and 2 SUV'S. We started off small by crossing the river to Oregon and doing a bit of school shopping for the kids. This was a fairly successful excursion, so we took our chances and headed north the next day to visit a good family friend (Katie Beck, who is now married and I have no idea what her married name is). She runs a Kayak outfit in this charming little town called Skamakawa. (the hotel lobby, post-office, and grocery store are all the same place!) It was great to see Katie, she is as crazy as ever, and it was fun for the kids too. They had amazing adventures hiking to "the fairy tree", dodging the troll under the foot-bridge, and fighting "zombies" that lived in the forest. Katie and Alex have chickens and sheep and lots of land that they hope to turn into an organic farm one day. We stayed at the cozy little Inn overnight and rested up for the next days drive South to San Francisco.
